Wipeout 2 is a new video game offering from Activision that's based on ABC's hit TV game show, Wipeout. Wipeout 2 has contestants competing in outrageous physical challenge courses for a chance to win $50,000. Updated courses and special infects are taken straight from the show's summer and winter seasons. The game is narrated by the show's hosts. John Anderson and John Henson and includes the popular obstacles Big Balls, Sucker Punch and Smackwall Sweeper. You compete to improve your time and become the Wipeout Champion.[ABC Wipeout 2]Wipeout 2 is an obstacle course that has your character running, sliding, crouching and jumping over a variety of obstacles similar to the TV show. Running, crouching and sliding are accomplished with the directional keys. Jumping is accomplished by pressing the B key. You can sprint with the Y key, slow time with the X key and add flair in the air using the A key. You can play in single player or multi-player modes (up to 4 players). The game itself is played on the bottom screen. The shows hosts are shown in the top screen with commentary on how well/poorly you're doing and occasionally suggestions for what to do to accomplish each obstacle. When you first begin the game, you choose a character appearance and are given the option to start in tutorial mode or regular mode. As you proceed through the obstacles, you have the option to retry or skip each option if you don't succeed the first time. Some of the obstacles can be tough so I found this to be very handy. Skipping an obstacle does does add a time penalty to your score.During the qualifying round, contestants compete for the fast time across the obstacles. The sweeper round has contestants competing against the Sweeper Bar and each other. Only the top two contestants will move onto the wipeout zone. During the wipeout zone, the last two contestants compete for the title of wipeout champion.During the game, you earn a better score the quicker you complete each challenge. You can also earn more points by using the flair button which you use to show off. More flair activates special moves like sprinting and slowing down. You are also given the chance to collect rings in each qualifying round and in the wipeout zone. This unlocks new characters. You are judged on seventeen different categories including the number of jumps and flair earned. When you break a record in a category, you earn an award. This game is definitely fun to play and anyone who likes the action in Wipeout will love Wipeout 2. The graphics and music are nothing amazing but you are honestly so focused on getting through each obstacle that you never notice. While it's rated E for everyone, younger kids might find it too challenging. My fourteen year was entertained for hours. If you're looking for a video game that will keep your tween/teenager busy for hours that you don't have to worry about violence in, this is definitely the one you need to choose.

IF you played the first WipeOut game on DS, then you may have been very disappointed in it with it's sluggish controls and annoying load times between each obstacle of the coarse. This time around Activision have corrected those mistakes, and now when you compete in a coarse, it is all a smooth ride to the finish with no stupid load times for the next obstacle. The game is a huge improvement on the first, the controls respond well, again, only using the DS buttons, so there is no need for the stylus, but thats ok with me. There are several coarse', but you only get the first 3 when you first load up, when you win the show you unlock the next one and can unlock more characters to play as. That I did find annoying, some games you don't want a create a character and just want to get to it, but this one here I think would benefit more then the stupid characters they have in this, like the only two characters you can choose from to begin with, is a dumb looking emo kid and a red haired girl... the characters you can unlock are more human players, but you can also unlock weird ones likes a guy dressed as a robot, santa clause, a granny, some sort of Koolaid wannabe and a few others. Those are the sort of things you would expect you could create, not just unlock... as none of them look like myself or friends, but then again, you don't have an option to write names or anything either. The other annoying thing is the opening scenes and commentary. This time around it's not as long as the first games, but still they have programed this game to make you sit and wait for stupid dialog to be over and done with before you can start the action... why is it so hard to allow a skip button in these things? Being that this is the DS, it doesn't have a lot of capacity for audio files, in particular, what the commentators say... I think in total there is no more then 10 things these guys say, and it's just irritating when you hear the same thing over and over again... in the options menu there is the ability to turn off the commentary, but low and behold, doing that just cuts out the audio, you still have to watch them and read what they are saying, so what is the point of that? Next time, A SKIP BUTTON for god sakes.I also noticed there is a glitch in the game, in the 3rd coarse of each show, just before the end area, if you fall off the coarse, you can skip the replay and replay that part again by pressing the L & R buttons, but sometimes this glitches and stays in a replay (replay that shows what you just did) looping and its stuck... sometimes jamming the L & R buttons around with other buttons gets it out of it, but a few times I had to just press start and choose to replay the whole level from the beginning.Overall, as I said, this a HUGE improvement over the original. The controls work now, the game is fun, and the game has been much better designed with start to finish coarse' with no stupid pauses or loads... had the skip the intro option and the create a player options been put in, I would give the game a higher score, but those two things bring it down, so I can only give this game 3 and a half stars. Which is 2 and a half more then I gave the first one.

Really, this game is good for you if you like to wipeout 100 times and half of them were not epic (Like accendentaly run into the mud/water) or/and you really like long and annoying games. Overall, if you don't mind failing 20 times on an obstacle in wipeout 2 and/or you like taking a few weeks to beat the game, its for you. If not, this is is NOT for you. If you don't mind the 100 wipeout part but hate long and annoying games, rent it.
