4Fun Romp
By T. Savang
This game is not perfect, but it is hard to hate!If you are deciding between the limited edition or just downloading the game, here's what in the limited edition:-Art book: Major disappointment compared to the Japanese version. The localized version has a picture of major characters...that's it. The Japanese version has pictures, screenshots and text that probably tells you who the character is. Lazy part on the localization team.-Soundtrack: Contains 25 songs that is about 50 mins long. I can't compare this to the Japanese version since I don't know what that version has but there are some songs that should have been on the disk like "Fury Sparks" from Tales of Vesperia or X's theme and Zero's theme.-Mini Poster: Basically just... I don't know, something you would seen on an advertisement. With that out of the way...Gameplay: It's a very basic SRPG at first and you can mash A to beat enemies, but the game rewards you for learning the battle system. The more you play, the deeper the strategy gets. You have to position units to get ideal support attacks to extend your combos and gain past 100 XP. Once you grasp the depths of how to extend your combos in combat, you have to balance your use of XP for skills and supers, not only that, but your solo units are all different and choosing which unit to tag them with is harder than it seems. Solo units add unique skills that can make your pair unit versatile but you have to balance it between useful skills and how the solo unit's attack will help extend your combos. The game's major problem is balance. You start with a basic team...then a squad, then 2...then a frickin' platoon. The only way the enemies keep up with the insane army you have is to send more enemies (like a horde) and give them larger amounts of health. You will only find that using skills and items to be super important near the end game where enemies will swarm you and using items alone will not suffice. Truth be told, I didn't mind it that much. The game's combat system is enjoyable and achieving 100+ combos are always fun.Music: Holy cow. The selection of music in this game is outstanding. Hearing X's and Zero's themes are a blast. Having "Devils Never Cry" blaring while your units plow through enemies feels so awesome. Heck, I'm glad they brought even brought Sakura Taisen themes. No complaint there.Story: Uh...This is like a Saturday morning cartoon. Or more closely, a fan fiction. It feels like the three companies chose characters they wanted, created Kogoro Tenzai and Mii Koryuji, some villains and gave it to a writer to make a plot out of all that. The story will not blow your mind but the writers really shine when it comes to the characters' interactions among each other and they can be down right hilarious. Heck, the best parts have to be when Ogami-san gets affection points from non Sakura Taisen characters. So, don't take the story seriously, it's just a laid back fun romp through worlds with funny character interactions.Graphics(?): This is very subjective as some like sprite based works and others don't. I love the sprite based designed. Heck, the 2D versions of many of these characters is gorgeous. It's very nostalgic to see stages from other games created for use here. Again, it's a love it or hate it thing.Summary: Funny character interaction, basic SRPG but fun combat system, awesome music, amazing sprite work, game can be too easy till near the end. I'd recommend this to fans of SRPGs and fighters but also for people just looking to relax.

3Repetive, simple, but oh, so much fun!
By Manuel A. Saez
As one of my most anticipated titles of the year, I must say that I am a huge fan of the stable of characters being presented in this release. Sega, Capcom and Namco have some of the most iconic characters in all of gaming, and seeing them presented in such beautiful detail is not only a dream come true, but most likely a once in a lifetime event. Having plugged in 20 hours into the game, let me get the bad news out of the way first;1. It is extremely repetitive. There is rarely any "skill" required to battle, and one only needs to remember when to press a specific combination of buttons in order to achieve the most damage.2. The story makes very little sense: After the 12th conversation where I still did not understand why anything was happened, or what was going on, I just started skipping the dialogue in favor of the battles. Now, on to the good news;1. Ultimate fan service: this is the game only a fan can appreciate. If you have a favorite character, be it from Sega, Capcom or Namco, they are given a great amount of attention.2. The game is beautiful: the sprite work is amazing, and every character is rendered in exquisite detail. The animation interspersed between the battle animations is also a great touch.3. The battles are fun: I actually replayed several battles, and it was fun to try new combinations or characters and moves.4. Lengthy quest; The game is LONG. I am 20 hours in, and I still have plenty more to do. You certainly get your money's worth.I am giving this game 3 stars simply because if you are not a fan of the respective companies, you will find little to keep you playing. But as a huge fan of Sega and Capcom, seeing some of my favorite characters brought back to their 2D, sprite-based glory left me grinning from ear to ear. I love the aesthetics of this game, and it is perfect as a portable game. If you are on the fence as to whether to dive into this game, think about how much you love the respective companies. If your answer is "not very", then look elsewhere. If, however, you happen to have a favorite franchise amongst the 50+ characters presented, you will love watching them battle, and isn't that enough?

4Quirky & fun, if it's your thing
By MechaShiva
This game has a very specific audience here in the US and it knows it. The fact that it even got localized at all is surprising, but I'm thankful for it! Really the main draw here is the characters and their interactions through the "story", which is a just a wacky series of events to bring the cast together. If you haven't played (and liked) games like Tales of Vesperia, Super Robot Wars, Xenosaga, Devil May Cry, God Eaters, and Megaman X, you're going to be missing out on a big part of what makes this game fun to play. That said, a lot of these characters aren't going to be familiar to any US gamer, but if you're the type that knows (and again, likes) the Japanese anime-type tropes, you'll still get a kick out of them and enjoy the ridiculous ride.Fanboyisms aside, the game play is solid and surprising deep for being based on such simple mechanics. Finding optimal combos and honing your timing for those ever-so-essential crits provides plenty of challenge in itself. The grid-based strategy layer atop that is somewhat flimsy and simple, but adds enough interest and tactics to not feel superficial. Fans of Fire Emblem, or Disgaea will find things to like.In summary: Solid game play with enough depth to be interesting makes it good, and if you're into that scene (and if you are, you know what scene I'm talking about) then it becomes great.
