Another Excellent Jewel Master Game - addicts to match 3 rejoice!

As everyone who enjoys Match 3 gameplay knows not all games of this sort were created equally. The best have fast moving gameplay, clear graphics, and difficulty levels that are balanced and progressive. This game has all of those and more. The music is pretty much the same or similar to the past Cradle of Rome so no surprises there. The gameplay is addictive and the Jewel Master series is known for not making you wait while all the matches are being made - which slows up games and can be quite irritating. The graphics are good and clear - although they are just the smallest bit blurry on my DSiXL. On the 3DS they are very clear, albeit small. The difficulty is solid - with a gradual ramp up but so far (I'm nearly through) no major blocks that suddenly ramp up difficulty.I enjoy the Jewel Master Cradle series because the games are addictive and not too easy. I sometimes fail levels multiple times but I remain always encouraged to continue on. The difficulty is not off the charts - and I think would be manageable by most even younger kids (though probably not under 8 or so depending on the child). The only thing on this one is that the extras seem to take a bit longer to achieve (like the bomb that you can use to blast sections). No complaints though - this is a very solid and superb game that all match 3 game players should pick up. Nothing revolutionary - and not so different than its predecessors - which means you'll get hours and hours of entertainment value for your buck here!Edited: There are some issues with this game, after a play through, that have come to light. Those who state the points don't calculate correctly are right in some places. Mine seem too at times and other times they are definitely not. It is not all of one type (e.g. shrimp). The tools do NOT carry over most of the time to the next level. However I have had them carry over every once in a while particularly with the lightning bolt yellow one. For me I got all the way through level 100 and I didn't "complete" the game so it sent me back to level 61. Playing through to level 100 I only got the first several tools - I was missing 3. As I played back up again starting from level 61 I obtained the rest of the tools. I have 250,000 resources but only 18,000 food (and so on) which makes the game somewhat unbalanced.Now even after that I have to say I still love it and would give a 5. I use this to relax after a long day. It takes a lot to frustrate me so it wasn't that irritating to me to get dumped back since it's the game I like playing - flatly I wouldn't mind if it was never ending.

This game has problems!

The game play is really great, just like the last ones, however, it doesn't issue the points correctly. The first time I played through, the "shrimp" were supposed to give you 6 food points each...and mine weren't giving any points. I am now on my second way through and they give you 6 points, but it is in the gold. Third thing is the "resources" are averaging 15-20 thousand points HIGHER than the other two. Something is NOT right. Not sure if there is a fix for this, but I would recommend double checking your game. Also, if you try to go review the epoch, it deletes it completely and makes you start it again. It still plays, but it's pretty disappointing that it doesn't give you the full game play because you can't obtain all the items on the right.

Great game, but there appears to be a problem with the accumulation of bonus tools. The instructions state (on page 14):"5. If you cannot complete a level during the given time, try to build up your bonus tools as much as possible. The charge status of the bonus tools are carried over to the next attempt at that level, however the current scores are not,"Indeed, this is how the original Cradle of Rome operated, BUT in this version the bonus tools accrued in a given level are lost if the level is not "won". This may be a change to make the game more difficult, which it very much is! If that is the case, the instructions *should* reflect the way the game operates.Update 11/8/12:I have also observed the scoring problems mentioned in another review... I hope they re-issue a "fixed" version of the game, as this one has apparently been discontinued. The "match" play and graphics are very good, but the game is frustrating to play.
