Excellent Portable Lego Game

I bought this game off the eShop (and ordered another here at Amazon for my kid as a gift) and after about 6 hours of play believe this, hands down, is the best Lego game on a portable device. It is a smaller bite-size version of its Wii U counterpart. The game is not without its issues, though, as while playing you can tell the game pushes the limitations of the hardware from a graphical standpoint.Graphics: Are pretty good. There are some frame rate issues when a lot of objects are on the screen at once and some rough textures. There are also significant pop-in issues where Lego cars and people just show up right in front of you when you are cruising around the world in a car. Also, the world is shrouded in a blue fog to help obscure the skyline and building pop-in issues. I don't want to overstate the fog...it is not that big of a deal. The view distance is just fine.Sound: Repetitive music, minimal voice acting (you will mostly be reading text), but overall none of it is detrimental.Load times: These are lengthy (about 30-45 seconds a pop). This was also an issue in the Wii U version too.Content: There are a few things to do in the city outside of the missions, however it is much less than the console version. The main story is full of humor and age appropriate for young children.Controls: Tight and combat is fluid. Only wish it took advantage of the Circle Pad Pro for camera controls (you use the shoulder buttons instead which work fine too).Summary: It is tough to NOT compare the 3DS version to the console version. Despite the handheld version being billed as a "prequel" to the console version I felt a significant amount of déjà vu while playing it on the 3DS. Some of the missions were similar and of course all the locations are revisited. If you don't have a Wii U and want to play this game feel free to purchase and know you will be getting a bite-sized version of the Wii U version. If you love Lego games and have already played the Wii U version go ahead and buy anyway. It is different enough to not be too repetitive. With that being said, this is the first handheld Lego game that comes close to emulating its console equivalent and is a welcome addition to my catalog.

This is a really great game despite what others say

This is a really fun game. After completing the first mission of getting the donuts you are free to explore and do whatever you want in the first part of the city. I spent over an hour driving around building buildings and finding new cars and costumes. It was really funny watching the construction vehicles go off the jump. I felt it was like a good guy version of Grand Theft Auto with Legos.I was really excited for this game to come out. Everyone said that the console version was really great and I hoped this would be as well. I went to read the reviews of the game today since there are few games that I would buy without knowing how it is. Like Mario, Zelda, and Pokémon. I had already preordered Pokémon X.But when I read the reviews today they all said the same thing. They praised it in the beginning before saying that it had a lot of technical faults like frame rate, low draw distance, and other faults and that it would get a low score. I think they all forget that this is a handheld game. Of course there are going to technical difficulties and its not going to be as powerful as a console. I think some of them forget the 3DS is a handheld not a console.Its expected for there to be load times given how large each of the areas of the city are. At least they tried to make it better with tips at the bottom. I didn't really run into any problems while racing around the city in the sports car. I don't really mind there being no voices since I think minifigures should talk. I think its funny how they act out what they are saying.They put a lot of content into this and it is like the console version and that made people think it is when it is a handheld game. Everyone should get this game and play it if you love Legos.

My grandson can't stop playing this game. I bought one for my nephew and he loves it just as much!
